Connections in Education offers standardized achievement testing in a group setting from late March through April of each year using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (Grades 3-8) or the Iowa Test of Educational Development (Grades 9-10). Reading Diagnostic testing is available year round.

Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)

Connections offers the ITBS for students in grades 3-8 only. The ITBS measures student achievement in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Using Information. (Third-graders will be taking the Core Battery, which only includes Language Arts and Math; third-graders are also tested in Word Attack and Listening Skills.) Parents receive student reports with graphs that indicate how the student performed in each subtest in relation to the norm group (above average, average, below average).

Students in 3rd grade will be tested over two days; they must also be scheduled for two additional thirty-minute listening tests. Students in 4th through 8th grades must attend testing all three days.

Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITED)

The ITED is an achievement test for grades 9-12. (11th and 12th graders take the same test.) The ITED measures student achievement in Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Language, Spelling, Mathematics, Analysis of Social Studies and Science Materials, and Sources of Information.
