Apologia Chemistry Labs

Grades 9-12
Teacher: Cheryl Kirchner

Day/Time: Thursdays, 9:30-10:45 am (approximately twice a month, Sept. – May; See specific dates below. Some labs will only take 60 minute while others will require the full 75 minutes.)

This class is full as of 9/14/11.

Students will be completing labs from Apologia’s Chemistry text. This class will be more of a lab co-op than an actual class, in that Mrs. Kirchner will not be teaching the concepts from the text, though she will answer questions that students may have (especially math questions). Students are responsible for completing the reading and other assignments and/or tests at home.

Tuition/Supply Fee: $75
Required Text: Exploring Creation with Chemistry text; parents will need Solutions and Tests for Exploring Creation with Chemistry to correct student’s work. (1st or 2nd edition or the CD Rom version of the text is acceptable)

Math Prerequisite: The publisher recommends that students taking this class should have completed Algebra 1. I think that if a student has taken some algebra 1 and can solve equations and work with numbers in scientific notation (adding/subtracting or multiplying/dividing with positive and negative exponents), he/she may be able to complete the math in this class.

Schedule: Students should read each module, especially the experiments before each lab meeting.
