Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) for Grades 3-8

Test Length: 6 hours (including breaks)

Tuesday, April 3, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm Reading & Language Arts
Wednesday, April 4, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm Language Usage (cont’d) & Math

Thursday, April 5, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm Social Studies, Science & Maps

If you are not able to make it at these times, please contact me. I may be able to arrange alternate testing days.

3rd graders need not come on Thursday, as they will only be taking the Core Battery (Reading, Language, and Math), but 3rd graders also have to take two additional oral subtests: Word Analysis and Phonics. Some students choose to stay an extra half-hour on the first two days of testing, others prefer to come in on a different day. I will contact the parents of the 3rd graders to discuss a good day/time for these additional tests.

Subtests include vocabulary, reading comprehension, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, language usage, math problem solving, math computation, estimation, social studies, science, maps/charts, references.

Students may use calculators on some of the math subtests, but there are no problems that require a calculator. If your student is not used to using a calculator, it is better if he/she does not use one. (Studies show that calculator use does not make a significant difference.)

Testing takes place in the fellowship hall in the basement of Grace Church.

Cost: $40 per student

Please register by Feb. 24 to ensure that I have enough testing materials. After Feb. 24, I may be able to borrow testing materials from Stillwater Christian School. Contact me if you are interested, so that I may check with SCS.

Test Length: 4.5 – 5 hours (including breaks)

Tuesday, April 3, 1:30 – 4:00 pm Reading/Language Arts/Sources of Information
Wednesday, April 4, 1:30 – 4:00 pm Math/Social Studies/Science

Thursday, April 5, 1:30 – 4:00 pm Optional make-up or alternate testing day

Cost: $40 per student

Please register by Feb. 24 to ensure that I have enough testing materials. *After Feb. 24, please call to confirm test availability.

Testing takes place in one of the classrooms (yet to be determined) l in the basement of Grace Church.
